Hey All.

I just have been tinkering with the new toy, and am starting to do some of the easy, basic stuff that I know helps out.

This includes checking the oil bath, which I pulled down this afternoon and it looked like some really nasty chocolate milk. So, my guess is that I had plenty of oil and plenty of water. Not a good mix.

So Im draining the cup now, and Im going to soak it tomorrow in some solvent to clean it up. However, my question is: When I add oil to this thing, does it matter where in the cup it goes?

Right now, there is the big cup, but also a small ring inside of it, sort of like a separate cup. I havent checked to see if that would get filled as well if I fill up to the line. Essentially, does the oil go in the inner ring, the outer ring, or both? Is there supposed to be something else in here too? (as in the filter mesh or whatever?)

I havent bought the service/tech manuals yet, they are on my list. So I wanted to ask first before I mess it up.

Thanks in advance!

~Bug

I have used 80-90 gear oil in a pinch . Just don't use it for a long time . Anything that's called oil will work . I agree with Old about that . The oil gets sucked up into the main body mesh while the tractor is running and as it gets full of dirt it flows back down into the pan washing the dirt with it . That's why thicker isn't better however so stay with the thinner oils unless in a pinch . The tranny fluid I don't know about since it'll take your paint off so I'd steer clear of that one too . But it should clean the mesh screen pretty well . One more point , Ya might not want to remove the pan immediately after shutting the tractor off , give the oil a chance to drain back . Good luck ! ...Randy

Thanks for the quick reply!

I thought that was the case, and that things would end up that way, but I wanted to check anyway.

I see the fill line on the outside, Ill just fill it up to there.

Is the 30 weight oil crucial? I have some multi-viscosity stuff that I was going to use, but I wasnt sure if that would affect things.

Doesn't matter if you use 30W or 10W or a mlti weight oil. Most say to use what ever you use in the engine, other say use a lite weight oil because it will not choke the intake as much as a thicker oil will. Me I use what ever I have on had be it 10W or 50W or even tranny fluid, or hyd oil.

Just clean it out good and fill both inner and outer areas with 30wt engine oil. I think you will find a fill mark on the outside of the oil bath pan. If not just fill to the top of the inner ring. Nothing else goes in the pan, just new oil.

Pour it in either place up to the oil line. No matter which one you use the other will also fill to that point since theres holes so it can do that
