I've never been around an actual roll-over type.

I've used John Deere two-ways and the IH tumble plows of the past.

Have used spinners since they came on the market in the 50s. Is this what you're talking about?

Allen what size plow is that? 16",18" just curious does it work that tractor very hard? How deep do you useally go 8" or deeper. Makes a good looking setup. We don't see "spinners" around here mostly just the straight old semi mounts but a 1066 would pull at least a 5x18 or 6x16 around here. Don't know very many that still use them at all any more just to build up terraces every other year or so is the only use most people have for them. Like was mentioned chiesel plows leave more options.

Hi Brian,

It's an 18" IH model 145.

In "normal" ground I pull in 4th; sod will put 'er down to 3rd. I always shoot for a 10" depth, depends on what ground I'm working tho.

Yes, this old farm is gumbo and it works the snot out of that 966. Hope the 1066 can handle it a little better this coming spring.

Any moldboard plow is not really any good (to you). If you are getting a plow to actually use once in a while, consider getting and old chisel plow. New farming methods , and gardening< have made those moldboard plows obsolete. And for good reason. You just lose too much soil moisture and you get down there and bring up a million, what WERE dormant weed seeds, that spring to life in the new sunlight. Talk to some of your neighbors who are farming and I'm sure they will tell you you have no need for a moldboard plow. But you will need a QUALITY disc! If you have a good disc you don't need a plow, but if you have just a moldboard plow, you will HAVE to have a disc. You can't even that plowed ground up with a cultivator . harrow, drag or anything else. With a chisel you have some options.

Gordo,

Trash farming is not a "new farming method". It has been around since the early fifties, tried and re-tried repeatedly by many.

There are regions where it just flat does not work.

Allan, beleive it or not, there are a few farmers in this area that are beginning to do the plowing and disking again, and yields are improving. The plowing is not done on a yearly basis. More like every 4 to 5 years.

Around here a few farmers are noticing that BT corn residue does not rot very fast so are having to plow it under . Discing doesn't seem to do a good job on it either but I see a lot of disc's out on what I considered no-till ground after corn . But I'm not a farmer so I'm really not sure of the various reasons they do what they do . ...Randy

Yes Sir,

This is the third cycle of this thing that I've seen in my lifetime.
