I'm looking to get a PTO rototiller for behind a tractor. I'm pretty sure that my Hs will not go slow enough to do it, and I assume the 450 will have the same trouble, even with TA? What do you all that rototill pull it behind? Thanks for your help. I'm not too familiar with the models beyond ~1958.

Trent

1st TA for the 450 is 1.7 mph vs 2.5 in direct, with standard tires. I don't know if that is slow enough or not, but I have heard that a rototiller will "push" the tractor with the TA engaged, since it is not a positive drive -- I do not know. I have used a rototiller very little, but I have had one push a 444, entirely different tractor, no TA, but a HI-low 8 speed transmission, don't remember what gear I was using 30 years ago. -- someone else will clear this up.

We have a 4 foot tiller on a Case-IH 385 and I have no problems. Once I start tilling I leave the tiller running regardless of which direction I am going, I just lift it up and back up as needed. I don't know about the PTOs on older tractors.

CNKS I never really noticed it pushing the 350 but it makes sense. I also believe after thinking about it will probably ruin the TA with much use.So I think I will put mine on the 584 from now on. Thanks!

Trent your 450 should handle a tiller just fine. they are hard to pull so dont get one to big 6 or 7 foot first gear in TA will be slow enough I pull a 6 footer with my 350 diesel and it works fine as long as you dont get to deep.Good Luck.
