Light and battery switch

I have a three position switch, frist position-I don't know ?.2 I don't know ?.3 it will turn on the lights It is a 6 Volt system, I just don't understand what all the clicks are for. I have fixed the Starter problem was a bad ground connection and thanks to all that answered you were a great help I have learned more now for later problems (maybe)

Does the generator have a cutout relay or a regulator? If the generator uses a cutout relay, the first two positions are probably to control the charge rate, i.e., low charge, high charge, lights (always on high charge when the lights are on).

High & low charge rates are controlled by switching a resistor in & out of the field circuit. A regulator does this automatically, but if you have a cutout relay you have to do it manually. High charge to re-plenish the battery after starting, low charge to keep it charged and hopefully not overcharge it.
