Been reading about biodiesel and veggie oil. Aso saw on Speed Channel guys running a dsl pu on filtered oil from fast food places. Would a 560 diesel be a good condidate for such? Maybe the old switchover diesels would be good?
Just thinking!

Cold weather is the biggest drawback to this type of fuel. Most farmers who have chores to do on cold days want to get them done as quickly as possible with the least chance for problems. GOOD diesel fuel[premium winter blend] is a step in the right direction.

The issue is not that it has issues running, the main problem is solidification of the fuel. Most vegitable based oils, and animal fat for that matter solidify in some cases at 60 degrees or so. almost all are a solid at 40 degrees. To keep from stalling and completely "lockingup" the fuel system, it needs to be heated. The conversion systems are primarily designed to heat the Bio fuel for handling in the tank and fuel lines, not to mention the pump. If a way to maintain the temp in the range of 100F, I think it would be fine. Possible dual fuel tanks to start and run to warm on petro diesel, then when warmed switch to bio., then when shutting down, switching to petro again to keep it startable. That is a lot of rigging, but it would work. JimN
