OEMTP vs. AI

Okay, just discovered that the drawbar on my Super H is a total hack-job. I thought that someone had just welded up a makeshift roller, but the drawbar itself is a TLAR (that looks about right) fab-job that"s actually a few inches short of being right.

OEMTP wants $109.99 for a reproduction
A&I wants $57.06
Junkyard originals run $50 and up, and they"re usually worn and bent.

How bad is the A&I reproduction as far as being usable as a drawbar?

I"am also a dealer with A&I, and checked the price it is $57.06. I"ve sold several for any and every make model etc. No complaints thus far.

I'll break the trend as I have a new one from A&I for a 1951 H. It is just like the original I took off the tractor except for the weld and enlongated hitch hole were missing on the new one. Don't know about the metallurgical properties but from appearence and fit it is the same as the IH original. Shipping on the A&I one was less then $10 by UPS to the house. Hope this helps and the price is correct as you stated. Hal

In general the problem with OEM is quality control -- meaning mainly their battery boxes, etc (also serial tags) which sometimes (two battery boxes and 1 of 2 serial tags that I purchased) need to be modified before they fit. Their heavy duty parts, such a drawbars are likely ok, where a 1/8" error probably doesn't matter, as it would when you are trying to get the mounting holes to match on a battery box. As mentioned, the price of the A&I drawbar has to be wrong. It is possible the OEM makes them anyway as they sell to other suppliers. Most A&I parts may be imports.

OEM makes very high quality parts. I have been satisfied with everything I have purchased from them.

I talked to a local IH dealer, and he told me he has been buying parts from OEM tractor parts in El Paso, IL and he said he has had real good luck with them, they are comparable in visable quality of OEM parts. I am an A&I dealer, and they have some parts that are excellant and others are not all that great.

Buy the OEM drawbar! I bought one for my M (had the M version of your TLAR drawbar), and it is good. You'll need to paint it if you want it red. Bought the roller, too. Very good quality.

I bought an aftermarket swinging drawbar for my H. It was 1/4" thinner and bent so that it sits on top, rather than below the U shaped drawbar. It may not be as tough as the original as it is noticeably bent down at the end now.

I've never seen the reproduction drawbar from A&I, but at the price you mentioned, it is either a mistake, a misprint, or the drawbar is junk. For the record, I have been quite disappointed in the quality of reproduction parts from A&I.
