I went to see John Hunter today, and he had the battery box decal. While I was there I talked to him about making the Farmall Liftall decal that goes on the side of the belly pump. He had a sample decal and said he would check it out. ken

Re: Famall A serial # in reply to lostone, 01-14-2007 07:27:39
It's a pre-production Frameall. Not a Farmall A.

The Framealls were kinda a preliminary Super A, with a very different hitch system and developmental live hydraulics. There's several in existence, with various bits of the experimental stuff left. There's a very complete Frameall near Edgar Wisconsin, and a bare bones one that was just found in Southeastern Wisconsin.

Neat find. Does it still have the funky hydraulics on it, or was the unit taken off?

What does this decal say? Was it on any other tractor's battery box like the W4 - which is basically an H engine? I saw a pic of an illegible one on a box on ebay once and my battery box had a barely visible outline on the side for what i assume was a decal. And does this John Hunter have a tel number or email or something? Thanks for any info.

Re: Question about putting new brake band on an M? in reply to John M, 01-12-2007 14:32:24
You do not have to pull the differential to change the pinion seals on an M. The seal runs on the brake drum hub, not on the shaft. Once the brake drum is off, there is plenty of room to get in between the shaft and the seal to remove it. If the original thick seals are still in there, it can be a bit of a chore, but certainly easier than taking apart the transmission. To get the part out(pinion shaft and bearing cage) that contains the seal, you have to pull the axles out of the bull gear and drop the bull gear down, as the bull gear runs in a slot in the pinion cage.

Thank you. That is very good to know. I have a 1950 H that has never been repainted, and it still has those decals on it, but they are no longer legible. I do have digital pics of them. I'll dig through my files and see if I can find them.

My belly pump had a trace of the origional decal. I could barely make out the FARMALL LIFTALL lettering. Couldn't tell what color it was for sure, but the backround was either clear, or light color. The lettering was black, I believe. OEM has them in their catalog, guess I could send for one to check it out. ken
