Went to look at old truck for parts today. Next to it was Farmall, "FC," s/n152685. Tricycle tractor with, "Wagner Iron Works loader model WV3IH6, s/n 1625. Tractor said to, "have front crankshaft problems," and was parked. It's been sitting for...years? Dry country here, though. Loader looks funky but still has reminants of the Wagner decal on it. Tires bad and flat.

I searched here and discovered this is, "French," built. Somehow that does not impress me. Tractor might be available for not much more than cost to haul it. Are they worth it?? I'm still hung up on the French thing and I don't care for narrow fronts. It has PTO, sheet iron seat, straight tin. Temp today was about 5-degrees so didn't look long.

Thoughts? I'm dumb on this one. Dennis

I agree with the residual oil point you make, But cubs will not self prime without help. Several have been ruined from lack of prime. I worked on a Subaru that was driven 10 miles at 75mph with the oil plug gone (a quick change station had not but finger tightened it) When it dumped the oil on I25 north of Denver, it produced what the owner clamed was whiteout conditions for 3 miles. Itran into the shop in Ft. Collins with all the lifters collapsed, and sounding like 75 or so 1/2" steel balls in a five gallon (steel) bucket. I put a new plug in the bottom, Primed the oil system with about five squirt cans of oil till it had pressure in the galley, and started it up. In fifteen seconds the ratteling stopped and the engine was quiet. We put a calibrated gauge on it and it was spec at 40 PSI Idle. We serviced that car for the nexxt two years without any issues, and (I believe it did not suffer) Kendall GT 10-40 oil was put in it at the quick change, and that is what we put back in it. JimN

The oil pump is located on the left rear of the engine.

There is a plug on the left side of the engine. As your are standing on the left side of the engine the plug will be to the right of the bottom edge of the manifold.

The second location. Look inside of the oil filter housing. There is a hole near the top on the inside. You can use an oil can to put oil into either location.

Hi, Is it rockwool or steel and what diameter? As the tractors got bigger so did the pulleys, but they also ran slower so they still ran about the same feet per second. We always used one size larger pulley for more speed. The MD pulley was on the H, and the WD9 was on the MD. Chuck

James: I don't think mice are partial to any particular tractor, they just love those torque tubes. It's one spot the cat can't penetrate. I think most of us have experienced this at one time in the past.

Yep, its a Saginaw. It really works well on the
belly pump on my H. If it ever quits raining here, I'll get some better photos. I kinda did a overkill on my plumbing. I hooked the lower ends of the cylinders into the drain on the pump: just in case I needed more oil capacity. It wasn't necessary. I have enough oil to raise the lift and suck oil into the other ends of the cylinders without adding oil. I guess it keeps air out of the other ends of the cylinders. ken

The most value for the buck in my opinion is the 300 350 and 400 450 series Farmall. They have the hitch that would have been king, and it converts to 3PT when needed, They have TAs which are very fine to use, they are live PTO Live Hydro. They are nice in every way. They do not have the Fame or Charisma of Letter series, but they are the same units benieth the skin. I find them the best mid size value beyond doubt. JimN

Thank you very much for your help. I printed out both replies and trotted down to the shop to get out my multimeter. Before doing any troubleshooting, I tried to start her and she and cranked right up. I guess it is my lucky day.

I had tried the tractor right after I unplugged the charger and could not get it started, honest. It always starts easily. Maybe the overheated coil just needed to cool down. The troubleshooting help will not go to waste though, I have it filed with the other posts I have collected.

I have several #7's and some #9's.....Don't think they're worth a whole lot yet over iron price unless ya happen to run across someone looking for one(if you want to sell, try Amish country)...but in my opinion they're worth holding on to.

Don't remember it, wasn't around, but I'll post some family pics of our place after the blizzard ended....First pic is looking west from on top of a snowdrift that was east of my grandparent's house....their house, in the foreground, is the one I live in now....great grandad's two-story house barely visible behind it was unfortunately torn down in '51 after grandad built a new house.....also, note windcharger tower in the background.
