From what I've seen and heard the 400 series tractors are pretty good for all-round general work. of course the Super M would works well too, thats what I use around my place for General maintenance and work

If you don't absolutely need the live PTO or live hydraulics, I think the letter series is the way to go for absolute sheer simplicity. The 300/350/400/450 is still simple compared to a more modern machine, but those live options add a few extra moving parts (more to go wrong).

Of course I'm biased since I own an A, 2 H's, and a W-9... and I'm cheap and the letter series comes pretty cheap. $1500 will buy a darn nice H or M. If you need live hydraulics but not PTO, look at a Super series.

The most value for the buck in my opinion is the 300 350 and 400 450 series Farmall. They have the hitch that would have been king, and it converts to 3PT when needed, They have TAs which are very fine to use, they are live PTO Live Hydro. They are nice in every way. They do not have the Fame or Charisma of Letter series, but they are the same units benieth the skin. I find them the best mid size value beyond doubt. JimN

I think you're right... in reply to Janicholson, 01-14-2007 09:56:43
I probably agree with the 300 + series. My problem is when I see some poor rusty tractor sitting around I want to take it home with me.

Personality fault.

Gee.

I totally agree with JimN. If you are not sentimentally attached to any particular model (and I, unfortunately, am) a 300/350/400/450 is absolutely the way to go. mike
