How many hp will I gain putting 3 and a quarter inch high domes in a C123 engine? Also, the head has been planed .017ths and new valves, springs and seats have been added.

I do not have individual close ups handy at this time but here is a shot of the entire collection. The other three Super C's are kind of grouped together, two of them have wide fronts and one is completely restored. It was pretty much a basket case like the current one we are working on but it is now alive and quite well.

Hugh that is ol "Casey" and dad has owned that tractor since about 1971. It was lo houred and like new when he bought it as a second big tractor to take some of the load off the 1256 back in those days. It was half the price of a new 856 (what I really wanted instead) so that is how we wound up with the off color tractor. It did not turn out to be such a bargain, though. A year or two after dad got it, the rear end went out and cost as much as the purchase price of the tractor to fix it. In the mid eighties, it spun a rod bearing and the crank had to be turned. We could have had that new 856 for what was spent on that tractor over the years, but live and learn, I guess. That ol 1030 has been around longer now than any other tractor on the farm and is kind of like a family member. Or at least, one you don't really want to admit to being related to.

Two of them that we have are equipped with flat top pistons and the third one has stepped pistons. I would say the flat tops were pretty much standard however the "firecraters" are listed as options in the Super C parts manual I have. Several different sets, as a matter of fact.

Exactly 2.87651 brake hp. Well..... .. not really. (I am a great joker.) Probably around 3 hp. but, you will be able to feel it if your ignition and carb settings are right. Torque is what matters with a tractor - not horsepower. mike

From what the kits say should be another 5hp with a few rpms. Didnt they run the 135s around 2000 rpms? I assume you have measured the block. There is a set on e-bay bids are arent that high from someone who sells them give him a call. Someone said that HOWARD ENTERPRISES doesent have the high dome pistons avail anymore. Go for it if you want the hp. I would get a new starter from that rebuilder in MINN as there is no core charge. I got one for a B that had 3 1/8 hi dome and it turned over great just hit the starter and it fires.

This is the tractor we are rescuing and the engine is the one being gone through. The block and head is at the machine shop now. This tractor has sat locked up for YEARS but is very low houred, everything is super tight wear wise. Note the optional hour meter on the top of the instrument cluster. It shows 1500 and some odd hours. Do believe these hours might be actual from the lack of wear on the pivot points. This will make four Super C's in our collection of 12 running IH tractors.

The tractor is completely disassembled now, the rear end housing has been completely stripped of all parts for cleaning, inspection and resealing.

I have all the other parts necessary to make it run again, including good tires and rims, both front and rear. The rust God will not get this one for a while yet.
