Just wondering if there is someone that makes an aftermarket hour meter that mounts the same as the original add-on. Just think it would be a cool accessory for mine after the engine rebuild. Patrick

Not original, but works.

There's an IH hour/tach on Ebay. The item number is 130068615991. Hal

I guess you saw the post about the SC we are restoring that has the hour meter. I am hoping it may even work. The glass is not broken, the dial is still quite clear and the wiring was all intact. It reads 1500 and some odd hours. I am sure going to try it out to see if it works before I pitch it in the trash.

Yes I saw the pic and thought it would be kind of cool to be able to keep track of the hours on my engine after I get done with my rebuild. Mine is a 51 early production and was fairly basic when I got it. Trying to get some cool options on it. Good luck on your latest project and would like to see some of your previous projects. Patrick

Here is a photo of my wife with "her" Super C, it is a 53 model and is in excellent shape. We bought it from the second owner, who had owned it for 35 years. We put the wide front under it, it had a tricycle front when we bought it. That is about all we have had to do to the tractor. I built the grille gaurd on the front and the buggy top came from TSC.

That is original paint and it is slated for a paint job, "one of these days."

Did you find that steering effort went up significantly when you made the switch from tricycle to WFE?

I have both narrow and wide front ends on a C and two supers. The wide front is not that much harder to steer than the narrow, unless you have mounted equipment on the front, such as cultivators or a snowplow. The real disadvantage of the wide front is greatly reduced maneuverability. The narrow front will spin around in it's own length, the wide front needs at least twice that even with brake assistance.

What Harold said is true, they are not as manuverable. I modified the piece that connects to the steering pad on the tractor bolster on one end and connects to the tie rods on the other end by making a completely new piece that is one inch longer, this allows the front tires to turn a lot shorter than the standard piece allows. It does however, make steering just a little bit tougher because it requires a little more leverage to turn the front tires set up this way.

Here are three more, not a very good photo it does not do the three tractors justice at all. In the center is what was once a basket case Super C, all rebuilt and repainted. To the left is a 39 model F20 and to the right is a 54 SMTA, both the F20 and SMTA are dad's tractors.

Nice lookin equipment. I've been looking through my Super C parts book and trying to pick up an accessory now and then. I thought the extra gauge on your tractor was an hourmeter and then I bought one on ebay last week. Is that bolted to the top of the instrument panel on the left of the light bar post? It shows an oil sending unit in the book. Why is it wired through that? You would'nt normally let it set around with the switch on and the engine off. Jim

This one is mounted as you say and the reason for the oil pressure operated switch is to keep the meter from racking up hours if the ignition switch is on but the engine is not running. Like if a child was playing on the tractor and pulled the switch out, it would rack up a few hours until the battery runs down. With the oil pressure switch, the hour meter will not log any time until the oil pressure comes up. This one has all that switch mechanism still in place.
