hey guys, i was reading some stuff on the 856's and how this guy was pulling one at a different horsepower for each class. my question is what do you do to get that quick change in hp. thansk jonathan

You adjust the amount of fuel being sent to the cylinders by the injector pump. On a diesel, more fuel means more power, up to a point.

Once you get to the point where the fuel-air mixture is saturated, you need to add a turbocharger, or install a bigger turbocharger, to get more air in. You can keep doing the turn-up-the-pump, add-bigger-turbocharger dance until you're shoving so much air and fuel into the tractor, the engine explodes.

This guy was probably just adjusting the injector pump to compete in different horsepower classes, if indeed that is the case. I've never heard of a farm tractor pull where they class by horsepower, though. I've only ever seen farm tractor pulls classed by WEIGHT.
