Ok, so I posted on here a couple months ago about a tractor my grandfather owned, and completely restored. However, he passed away several years ago, and I was wanting to get a tattoo of the tractor but I didn't know what year or model of Farmall it was. Hopefully someone can help me out with these pictures I have of it?

And the real question I have is, if anyone can identify the year and model of it, where could I find a more standard picture of the same model and year to take to the tattoo shop?

It's an H and that's about as close as you can get. Make your Grandpa proud and forget the tatoo!!!

I'm with you. Wish I could find grandpa's Farmall A I started driving at age 6 pulling a hay loader behind a wagon. If I even thought about a tatto he would jump up out of the ground and cut a stick and use it on my backside. Stay warm up there. Hal.

Look to the left of this web page and you will see "Galleries" [black on grey], clink the link for "Tractor Photos". Once there, you can type in the model H [big upper case letter within circle in photo] and _____ . I haven"t looked for H"s, but I"m sure, as with other models I have looked at, you will find "tons of H"s". Maybe less painful to simply have an IH "H" keychain pierced through the skin between the nostrils. One hole and you are done. Sorry, not a fan of this sort of stuff-my opinion, even though you didn"t ask.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm sure I can get a good idea of what tractor to look for now. But I still need to see where I can find more standard pictures of this tractor? If anyone knows?

Hi, It is a 41 or early 42 because of the non pressure radiator. I vote for 41 because a lot of the 42's had to be sold with steel wheels , then had the spokes chopped off an rims welded on. My dad could not get starter and lights in 42 either. Nice tractor, Chuck

Looks like a early or mid 1940's Farmall "H".
It has the distillat motor option.

You may never know exact year if you no longer have tractor. But if oil filter housing and starting switch is original its a 1941 or 42 farmall H.

After another look at picture, best I can see the choke rod and mounting looks like type used when starter button was under gas tank and starting pin went though steering post. If so that could make it old as 1940 and no newer than 41. Reason I say no older than 1940 is transmission top. The switch on post in picture has no wires to it I can see. It has a low pressure radiator which in 42 was last year. Tall oil filter last used in 42. It does'nt have block between steering post and light bar which makes it sometime in 41 or newer. Think the front wheels have ben changed, not because they are adjustable type but because it looks like they have the thicker flange that wheel bolts go through that later tractors used. Manifold probably changed, its gasoline. This is just a best guess any parts could have ben changed over life of tractor.

As you have probably realized by now, the tractor's model is clearly marked right on the sides of the tractor. It's a McCormick Farmall H, manufactured by International Harvester. Common shorthand is simply "H" or "Farmall H."

By the looks of it, that tractor is a 1950(?) or newer, due to the loop-type front rims. Older tractors have clamp-type front rims. Someone correct me if I've got the date off, but it definitely is one of the later tractors.

Without the serial number, there's no way to tell exactly which year the tractor was made. It really doesn't matter much, though, because to a causual observer, an H is an H. The 1939 model looks identical to a 1953 model, except for the tiniest of details. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference in a tattoo.

Loop style rims give no clue to the year. I believe they were an option from nearly the beginning. They were simply an "upgrade" so that you could make adjustments to front tread width on narrow front and smaller adjustments on wide front.

All three of my '42 H's came with the loop style rims.

That's a Farmall model H. You need to look for the serial number on the tractor so the year of the tractor can be determined. Look under No1 sparkplug near the radiator for a flat spot. It may have paint covering it. Look for casting numbers on the block and post them too. Hal
