Are you sure the assmbly is put together right?? the rockers should be aimed towards each other, if they are aimed away from each other, someone has taken it apart and put them on backwards. That would make one line up, and throw the other one off, side to side,,,, If the springs are compressing to get them to line up, for sure they are on backwards on the shaft. Other than that, its a bolt on deal,,,, can you show us a picture?? Chad

the rocker srms do interchange the heads for an m thru 450 are all the same height. the valves are all dirrerent lenghts depending on the type of head. i'm guessing that you are kind of new at engine work. the rockers aren't near the valves because they need adjusting or your gas head has valves from a low compression head installed in it and they would be too short, randy

ok, i just went to the shead and tried to put the rockers on, they match up where they are bolted down to the head, but where they are supposted to make contact on that little peice of meatal on top of the vales, the rockers do not fit on there...there too short, like if i get them to match up on one side they will be off on the other side

Just looked in the parts book. All of the rocker arm assemblies are the same. The levers fit H and M and their simmilar numbered models. So, since the part numbers are the same, then something else must be the issue.

The valve length is different in different heads. That might be why it appears that the rocker arms don,t fit.

As long as the correct valves are being used in that head, there should not be a problem. So, looking at an LP head, it will have a small combustion chamber. The top of the combustion chamber will come a lot closer to the piston. For it to reach the rocker assembly, it has to be long. For a kero head, the combustion chamber is quite a bit larger. The top of the chamber is much further away from the piston. With this head, the valve stem will be shorter. Now, the 8060, being the later gas head, the valve length will fall in between the two.
Basically, kero head and low comp gas heads first. To keep as many parts the same, the dimensions of the head castings changed along with the valve length, but keeping the rocker assemblies the same. Same was done when the LP heads were developed with the 264 and 281

The answer is we need more info. There are at least five different options involved from distillate heads to Propane heads and gas heads for various engines in that series in between. Head casting numbers will help, as will the year/serial # of the engine it will go on. Too many unknowns. JimN
