Here are a few photos from the ice storm that nailed us 8 days ago. I took these today after we have had a day or two of thawing. My brother in law took some unreal photos at my place on day two that you wouldn't belive. I don't have those yet. We got power back at 11:00 AM this morning. Still thousands of homes without power or water. No busted pipes at my place. God had his hand on my family, could have been much worse. Sap heads have been stealing the generators that are running RR crossing lights and stop lights. Hope no one gets killed because of it.
Paul
PS Thank you to all that prayed for us down here and to all the utility workers that worked so hard for us.

Paul, thanks for sharing the photos. I think you guys got hammered worse then we did as I believe I heard you had more ice. We had plenty but those icicles are certainly longer then any I've seen on our fences. I don't think we had as many power poles down either. Glad you are back up with power and you were able to keep water lines from freezing. We all certainly won't have to look for trees for firewood next year as we have them everywhere already down. Sounded like a war around here with all the stuff going down in the woods early on. Well take care and thanks for sharing the photos - good luck to you in what is going on this evening in the way of ice and snow. Hal

I didnt really watch the forecasts or anything. I was expecting more snow, but man theres none, just ice, gobs and gobs of thick ice, holy crap!! Anyone seen that video floating around of the guy who caught like 15 wrecks at once? Looks like a pinball game, he was on a balcony, and cars would slide sideways for like 50 foot goinmg about 5 mph the whole way, truly crazy!!...

1997, Lincoln NE. Took the top off of trees from one end of town to the other. The following July 4th I was able to see fireworks across town from my roof that I hadn't been able to see for 10 to 15 years.

Complete streets blocked with debris for miles. No heat or lights in much of area. Scary.

Hope you made it through O.K.

Paul: You guys got hammered. It looks very much like Eastern ON and Southern QC did on their ice storm about 10 years ago. That one toppled those big steel transmission line towers, somewhere in the hundreds if I remember correctly. Are you folks getting any of that? I say that as your forest looks very familiar.

I do hope the electricl utility companies from across North America have responded as they did 10 years ago. It is clearly a disaster, yet here we are not hearing about it in the news.

For a minute there I thought you were trying to freeze money. I know in the dirty thirties folks got in a habit of banking in the backyard, tobacco cans of money burried everywhere.

All the best to you folks, do hope things get back to normal. I did get an e mail responce from Jimmy. He still didn't have power Thurs. evening.

Hugh, on Wed I drove a mile square around our place and there where about 40 or 50 poles down and by Friday afternoon a crew from Memphis had them all back up. I didn't see any large metal poles down but the wood ones sure took a beating. There where 20+ down on the highway just up from us and the Memphis crew said an 18 wheeler hooked a low wire and pulled a pole down. With in a few hours they started to go down on after the other. I have nothing but praise for all the utility workers. They are amazeing.

Yep been there done that here also. Looks about the same here at my place. Power was out from saturday night till friday night here. I lost water system for a little but fixed now but still have a 1.5 inch by 2 foot sticking in my roof/ceiling in my liveing room. Figure I'll leave it there till it warms up some and the snow we are getting right now melts off.
