i have a 1952 farm all super A 4 cyl gas engine . electrical shop says pos ground ? which one is it thanx

It came from the factory 6 volt, positive ground.

What it is now, 50+ years later, is the question.

Generally speaking, if it still has the original 6 volt system with a generator, it is most likely still positive ground.

If somebody put an alternator on it, it's probably 12 volt, negative ground.

As always, there are exceptions to these generalities.

It IS whatever terminal of the battery is connected to the tractor's frame. + to frame = positive ground.

It is SUPPOSED to be positive ground, but could have been changed any time in the last 55 years:

With the stock wiring, generator, etc, it should be positive ground, but will work equally well with negative ground if you reverse the connections at the Amp meter and repolarize the generator.

If the tractor has been upgraded to 12V with an alternator, 99.99999% of the time it MUST be negative ground.
