Good morning yt/red iron folks! Up shortly after 0300 central time. Best part of the day right now - ->26 and light winds. Will be 0-5 with winds gusting=chill factor down to -20 tonight. Better get out and get some pictures taken early. Have been drinking 1/26 coffee, thumbing through Sept. and Nov. RPM. Thoughts are of my 340; a fine elderly gentleman excavator, who, if one was to call it retirement, dug graves at several cemeteries. Passed on at 82, about a month since his wife’s passing. He liked to see me in my pin-stripped bibs and white shirt, like my grandpa Lars wore. “...now I still think that really looks sharp” he would say. He joked, wondering who would dig his grave. Ralph, ‘Digger’, a fine gentleman and a great community volunteer; the beauty of nature with about 5" of s**n*o***w on the ground. Plans for today - pat my tractor, put new seat back on her, fill the radiator and check potency of fluid, try to track down a new headlight for her. Spend time w/my dad and enjoy some fresh baked goods from a mom/pop bakery. My rule: no store-bought treats of any kind on the weekends. Peruse my 340 parts book, ponder what Hugh is up to in ‘O Canada’ land and enjoy the day. Wondering what you IH fans are up to today? Ok, time for fresh coffee. Folks, lets play nice on this board this weekend. Enjoy your day!

Al: I saw your post this morning just as I was going offline for breakfast. Been quite busy since. We have our 9 month old grandson and the parents here for the weekend. I think he can make 10 mph on his hands and knees, he walks quite easily holding on to chairs, etc. One thing is certain, grandma and grampa's house is not child proof. He wont stay contented in a playpen for more than 5 min. He's terrorized our old cat to the point she is actually enjoying the basement. Plain and simple this little guy is a full time job at this house for someone. Somehow I've found myself selected for that task much of the day. He's good little guy, very good natured, but is he ever loaded with energy. All is good and we are having a lot of fun.

I had been thinking of cutting back on my garden next summer. Perhaps I should increase it and harness that energy helping me weed and harvest. I can see by then he'll fill his chair at the dinner table. Get him started off on some good farm fresh produce.

There was a saying in my hometown, the farmers in pin stripe bib overalls were the millionaires in the crowd. I expect that is much the same across North America. You have a good day Al.

Finally have a day up to near 32 degrees for western NY. Think I will start up the H and clean my pig pen. Maybe grind some corn and finish the day getting ready to award a Eagle scout in our scout troop which will happen tomorrow.

Hi, I have a hard time getting anything more than the chores everyday. But today I want to get the harness and sleigh shined up and try to do anything I can to shorten the chores for tomorrow so we can spend a couple hours in the woods. The grandchildren and some freinds are looking forward to it. Have fun, We will, Chuck

Will get out and do some more fence repairs and down tree clean-up from the recent ice stroms. Going to get colder in these parts as well and looks like a week of real winter is coming at us. Have a great day, Hal.

Jim, I mentioned your post to Dee and she reminded me of some pork chops we had last week. She said at the time "It's too bad Jimmy isn't here tonight as these are really nice ones". Real meaty and lean and like a small porterhouse steak. Anyway, she said she would do them again when you get up this way. Just looked at temperature and is +10 F this morning along with a very strong WNW wind of at least 20 mph. Not looking forward to the walk over to the barn this morning as it is NW of our house so will have to do the forward lean. Take care and stay warm. Hal

Jim, this place is just a mess at present. Limbs and trees down everywhere and the ground is so saturated with water you can't go anywhere with leaving ruts. Areas through gates and ditch crossing look like a hog wallow. Only way I can get hay (square bales) to cattle in the back is on the top deck of a bush hog which is like a large platform carrier. I haul bagged feed back on my Super C carrier 500 lbs. at a trip. I'm having to wait until it dries up or ground freezes in order to get close to any of the clean up mess. I think you guys got it worse and can't imagine what it must be like around Springfield. Take care and thanks for the post. Hal

Looks like I have to take my graceful wife to the DR. this morning. She fell on the ice last night and I think she broke her left arm again. 3rd time in 18 years she has broke her left arm. Hope the metal plates from last time didn"t get bent.... Wayne

Hey Al, howsacome you get up at 0300? That just doesn't seem like normal hours to me unless you work early. Was up your way two years ago for one of my kids 4-H things. Pretty country/lots of red tractors!

I know what you mean about the wrong coler, but Dennis Zuber, from over at Homestead, took me to a Minnie Mo gathering down here in Florida a few years ago. Met some real nice folks and saw some great tractors.

Enjoy the Olivers!

Stan

Hi Al,

Gonna be cold here today also. Will probably check all the critters and then work in the shop where it is warm.

Migraine found me some parts out in the great northwest and I'll clean 'em up a bit and fit to an old red tractor parked about the place.

Have a goon 'un,

Allan
