Steering 300u

Most of the play in the steering on my 300u appears to be between the splines on the steering knuckle(s) and the steering arm(s). Would it work to tap a 5/16" stud between the splines to tighten this up?
Also, the tie rods are turned on to the drag links as far as they will go. Can a person simply adjust for this by moving the steering arm on the steering knuckle?
Lastly, what are the "cans" for that are built into the drag links?

What we are talking about are the splines between what I would call the top of the front wheel spindles and the steering arms. Re: the cans, see my later post.

Redrider has a freat solution for the splines. I would use solid pins in the center of the roll pins, But both work. Moving the arm one whole spline will likely work for the adjustments. Cans I do not know what you are refering to. JimN

Yeah, I dont see anything that resembles cans on my 300u draglinks. There are clamps on both ends to keep the threads tight, but no "cans"

I had the same problem with worn splines. This is what I did. I drilled three equally spaces 1/4 in holes between the steering arm and the splines. Its not easy and you will go through a lot of drill bits or sharpen them a lot. You only want to drill down to the lock ring about one inch. I then drove a 1/4 inch roll pin in the hole and then an 1/8 inch inside the 1/4 inch one. Then I just proceded with the next hole etc. This will take all the slack out. I did this 5 or 6 years ago and it is still tight.

I really wish I understood this explination! I have a 300 and a 350u, and do not understand what you did, or trying to do!Any pictures?
