Gasket Question

I ordered a new gasket for the oil pan for my SuperA from YT store and they sent a TISCO gasket. Appeared to be made out of cork? It fit fine but now even after tightening the nuts down a couple of times it seems like it "seeps" around/thru the gasket. It isnt enough to even be a drip but you can run your finger around the oil pan where the gasket is and there will be oil. There was no directions with the gasket so I didnt put any kind of sealer or anything. So do I need to just tighten the bolts down even more, take the gasket off and put some sealer on there, or get a new gasket and start over?

I need to replace some more gaskets so tell me what I did wrong before I do it again.

Super A Tx, I put 3 different kinds of gaskets on my SMTA oil pan, all leaked. I tried gasket dressing on gasket, leaked. I tried grease on gasket, leaked. I tried permatex, leaked. I tried high temp permatex, leaked. Now I got this stuff that seems to work good. Its called "Right Stuff" from permatex. I think its pretty neat. It comes in an aerosol kinda can. You screw the nozzle on the end, then push it sideways, like a whip cream can. It seems thicker and more elastic than the permatex in the tube, plus its easy to lay a good bead down.

I always coat my gaskets in grease before I install them. Works well and you can take them off without any problems if you need to get inside again.

I tightened down the bolts some more. I think either the gasket is "seating" or the bolts work loose when it is ran a while. Two of the bolts were rather loose and I know for sure I had them tight.

I have thought about grease and I think next time I will coat the gasket with it. I mean it cant hurt anything and it should help make a good seal.

The next gasket in line to replace is one I sure dont want to have trouble with cause it would mean taking the radiator and fan off to get to it. I should have replaced it when I had the thing aprt but of course it didnt leak until I got it back together.

if its neer the front it could be the timing cover gasket leak'in BTDT. Cork needs nuttin but a good flat surface to seal to. I do put a very thin coat of silicon on the timing cover gaskets on both sides and sum times no gasket at all just good automotive silicon. Back to the cork enny were their izz a joint you will need just a dab of silicon to seal the joint.

It should be tight enough to just bulge out the gasket between the pan and block skirt. If you flattened the pan with hammer taps on a good fitting block where the bolts are, it should be ok. I like to coat some cork gaskets on the "oil" side with a film of #2 permatex prior to use. JimN
