A friend has a chance to purchased a 444. It has power steering and fair rubber. The tin is decent and runs ok. What are problem areas for that tractor and what are the good things? What is a price range? He would appreciate any information on that model he can get. I know very little about that model. Thanks

I have the 444 Diesel. Work it like a dog. Tractor has proved itself over and over. Agree that brakes are a weak point but never a problem for my use pulling a 90 inch finishing mower.

Not sure I would take 5k for it. See them listed many times for 4k plus. Sorry to chime in so late.

I have a 424d which is very simular, (I think the 444 was even better. We replaced a 8N with it and no comparison. great little tractor The only complaint I ever heard about them were they were a bear to steer if you didn't have power steering (which you have) and the brakes were not the best, but if adjusted they seem to work fine. Parts are a little harder to come by but not impossible. I use a little starting fluid in the cold but above freezing it starts with just the glowplugs. Id love to find a loader for ours

I have an industrial 444 gasser. My only real complaint is the brakes, not too good, they are dry disk types.

Sorry I forgot to say it is a gas tractor. Used mainly for mowing.

They really did not have any recurring problems. It is just a small utility. Any problems it has will be due to how it was used and maintained. It has a 4 speed Hi-lo transmission (8 forward, 2 reverse) Speeds are well spaced for about any operation. Drawbar HP is about 35 -- but don't compare it to an M, they are not the same thing. I don't know anything about the diesel as I drove only the gas version, have heard no complaints about the diesel, either.

Hi Wayne, is the 444 gas or Diesel? We had B414, 434, and 384 all Diesels on our farm as loader tractors over the years. The 444 is same tractor and fits between 434 and 384. Neighbour had a 444 Diesel. All very reliable 40HP tractors. Only problem is cold weather starting, requires a very good battery, all glow plugs working and a block heater to start below 0°F. The ones that we had in Canada were build in UK but I believe they were also shipped in parts to U.S. and assembled there. Major difference is Delco Remy vs Lucas electrical system and maybe a swept back front axle.

Don't know going price.
