After reading one of your posts where you were givin some guy heck for asking the same question that has been asked over and over, (HTA tractors),..... Instead of asking how to get the blame cover off my 424 tranny to get it unstuck from reverse, I went back and looked up an old post in the archives and found out how to remove the shift lever and do it without removing the topcover. Now I don't have to ask. Thanks Hugh

My 424 would stick in reverse. I put the handle in Neutral. I marked the shift levers where they enter the transmission on the side showing the position of each one (in neutral). When the tranny hangs, I move the handle to neutral and then pry the shift levers up or down to line up the marks on the transmission case.

Ia Gary--- Franzens up at Monmouth had one the last time we were there getting combine parts. I believe his was made using a 350 center section. Don't know if he has sold it or still has it.

That's okay Gary, Hugh just gets a little testy sometimes. But he's a lot better now. You see, several years ago there was a flower shop in a little town. The flower shop did a thriving business. But there was a monastery outside of town that started growing flowers. The monks grew such beautiful flowers and sold them so cheaply that the little flower shop started losing business. The owner of the flower shop went up to see the head monk. He asked the head monk to stop selling flowers. The head monk told the flower shop owner that growing flowers kept the monks busy, improved their morale, and the profits were being used to improve the monastery. The head monk told the flower shop owner that they would still grow flowers. The flower shop owner continued to lose business and had to do something. He asked his mother to talk to the head monk, but she got the same answer. He asked everybody that he knew, but it seemed that nobody could make the monks stop. Then the flower shop owner had an idea. He called Hugh. Hugh went up to the monastery, beat up a couple of monks, and ripped up the flower beds. Hugh told the head monk that if they grew just one more flower that he would be back, and he wouldn't be so nice. The monks stopped growing flowers and the flower shop was back in business. It just goes to show that Hugh and only Hugh can prevent florest friars.

Chris: What are you drinking, I'd like to join you whatever it is.

This isn't exactly my day, first you acuse me of beating up on monks, then my son sends me an e mail from some beach in Costa Rica, telling how good the women look down there. Well it's only 88 degrees down there, heck they look good around here when it's 88 degrees. I even look better when it's 88 degrees. Heck even gene bender looks better when it's 88 degrees. We'd all look better in the northern US and in Canada, if it were 88 degrees, well maybe not you Chris. hahahaaaaa

Hi Hugh, what is your son doing in Costa Rica? Living, working, or vacationing? I took several student groups there in the 90's while at Iowa State Univ., both to the west coast and east. I preferrred the west because it was safer for tourists (not that Costa Rica isn't safe)although the Caribbean (east) side had nicer snorkeling.

Sure would be nice to be there instead of here in -5 F weather this morning, or back home in North Dakota with - 20. Maybe I should go dust off the passport. Although I didn't see too many red tractors there, seemed to me there was a big green dealership monopolizing most of the country.

Brent: He's there on vacation, I must admit I'm not exactly sure just where. I know they rented a car, and drove almost 200 km from the airport which I believe is in the capital. They are leaving that first location this am and making another substancial journey. I suspect they will have seen both coasts before the week is out. I know he put a lot of study into this before they left. I'm waiting until they get back for my geography lesson.

Hugh -
I agree with everything you're saying....except one thing, the fact that Gene Bender looks better when it's 88 degrees. I met Gene one hot day last summer to get some parts for a B buddy seat. It had to be at least 88 degrees. Gene wasn't looking so good, so I'd hate to see what he looks like below 80 and especially in this cold! I'm just kidding Gene. I really enjoyed my chat with you last summer and the parts worked out great. Can't wait for a bit warmer temps so I can get the B out. I've moved from IL to NE with my job and think some of these 'ole cornhuskers will think it's alright! Tell my dad hello if you happen to run into him around Washington or Kalona.

Gene, The new jobs going really well. Construction on the new ethanol plant and grain elevator are on schedule for opening this fall. Was fortunate to be able to buy a place in the country with a nice house and a 50X70 Morton with concrete floor. I'm liking that! It was time to get out of town. Don't make it back to SE Iowa as much as I'd like as I'm about 5 hours away, and used to be only 3. I'm not sure what tractors next. I'm saving some money for an acerage tractor. If you see a good old 574 or 584 D with a loader around let me know.
Thanks
DJL

DJL: I thought you'd get a rise out of him, he must either be out Farmall B eing or perfecting his rail road. I've met gene, he's been all the way to the east coast of Canada. I'll say one thing about his visit, you don't get a chance to talk anything much other than agriculture.

In fact I met gene almost 5 years ago, and only learned of his rail road in the past two weeks.

I agree, thought I'd get a rise from him too. I've only met Gene once, and he helped me out with some parts. He's got a bunch of knowledge of those B's. I'm a little partial to the B as dad had one since the 50's just for raking hay, running the auger and putting around with. First tractor I learned to drive. Never saw too many of them around where I was at in SE Iowa, turns out one of the experts just lived about 25 miles north of me! What's the story on Gene's railroad?

DJL: I best let gene tell you about that, he's never talked about it on forums, he must have a reason, and I should respect that. Probably I've said more than I should have already.

Send him an e mail, you'll be surprised.

Gary: CORRECTION, I will never critize anyone for asking a mechanical question, never-never-never. The archives just don't lend themselves to that type of question, there are just too many possible titles, and all the titles are correct.

Having said that, I think most will agree, that damn HTA falls in a catagory by itself. Perhaps Kim should have it on the home page,"IH NEVER BUILT AND SOLD A SUPER HTA".

Just wanted to make that clear. Now, I can tell you that gene bender is going to have a talk with George B and I with Steven H here in Canada. We are going to suggest these guys include this HTA subject in the next TV address to their respective nations. Maybe then we can put it to rest.

Also, remember this, I have no problem with anyone asking how an HTA was built, getting advice on building one, how popular it will be a shows etc. Please just don't ask if IH built it.

Anyone know where I can buy one of those HTAs?

I heard they only made them for short period so they are pretty rare.

Thanks Gary

Last one i heard about sold for like 18,000 or so went to the west coast. The guy who built it had every thing on paper and a video showing the work. There is a MECH in OTTUMWA that has one and can walk you thru what you have to do if you ever decided to have one.

I have one, but I never could get the blame TA to work right. Bloody thing would free wheel going downhill, most kilt me a couple of times. I finally welded it up so it just runs in High now.
I would post a picture, but I can't get anybody to explain how to put one on this board.
