I have a 46 H Farmall. It runs great but won't move - well will at times and other times it won't. Here is the story.

I had it sitting for about two weeks and went to load it on a trailer. I got it started but couldn't get it into reverse so I decided to go forward - regardless of what gear I was in it bogged down as if the brakes were on. After checking the brakes (they were not engaged - at least not manually), I got it to move forward and drove it about 300-400 feet to the trailer. I could not find neutral so I shut it down to get trailer ready to load. When I started it again and tried to move it , the whole scenario started again. Finally, it moved but would not go into neutral or reverse and would bog down whenever I tried to move. I finally got it to go again forward but now it has bogged down again. With the engine off and the switch off, I can push the starter and move the tractor witht he inertia fromt eh starter, I can depress the clutch and start the motor without a problem but when I let the clutch out, it bogs down as if the brakes are locked up.

Any ideas? I need to get this out of the weather

Bob

There is a pic of what the shifter should look like after it has been welded back up to the correct profile on this site somewhere.

do a search for shifter and see if it comes up.

If it was ice, the tractor wouldn't move AT ALL.

The tractor is stuck in two gears. A very common problem.

The shift lever has a little ball on the end that's worn off from 60+ years of use, and slips out of the shifter forks easily.

You need to remove the shift lever and look down in the hole. Use a screwdriver to center and line up the slots in the three bars you'll see down in the hole. Be sure to block the tractor's wheels so it doesn't roll over you when you finally pull it out of gear.

It is in two gears at once. The other posts about the shifter being worn is right on. We have had to build up numerous sets over the years.

You may have some ice in the gear boxes. Hal
