Have a problem with a 706. It is a '64 model with a 282. I had leaking exhaust manifold gaskets....tried to remove manifold...broke off one of the studs. So, i tried to heat the head round the stud with the torch, got it cherry red...removed stud, and put in new, replaced manifold, now it sounds like it has a burnt valve on the cylinder i was torching by.....any ideas?? Exhaust port is wet with fuel, so i think it is injecting fuel, did something crack? Valve burnt? any ideas are appreciated! -Wide Open

Wide Open,I restore pre 39 farmalls,I ruined a good head by heating the studs like you did.Heating the head caueses the head to crack,Welding a nut on a stud is the best way for removal.Cracks can be fixed by a machine shop,Dont feel bad we have all done this, let it be a lesson

you may have cracked the head, or posibly if it had a new seat pressed in the for the valve, it could have dropped. run a compression test on the motor, i would guess that cylinder is going to be low. i would pull the head and have it checked to be on the safe side.

heres a little tip for removing broken studs. weld a nut to stud that will heat up stud and head slightly than wait acouple minutes stud will shrink as it cools and you put wrnch on nut and screw it out.
