differences in C-123 block questions

I'm still looking for a block for my '53. I have found another C-123 block, but it is out of a swather. The casting that I have 354 898 R2. The swather block is 366 295 R2 (sn 8263).

My questions are:
1) will this block work in my tractor ?
2) what are the differences ?
3) if I do use it, what problems will I run into ?

Thanks

Greg

I just put a 123 industrial ("Super 'C') engine in my "B". The block fit to the transmission housing fine, and the front end fine. I had to use the Fan/Water housing from the 113 engine, as the hose opening from the 123 was to large. Also, since starter from this engine attaches opposite from the "B", one "engine block to transmission bolt" was not used, and there is a gap where the block does not cover the transmission casing. I will also have to make a new bracket to mount the Gen/Alt.

Greg,
Be aware of the differences between some 123 engine blocks at the sleeve to block opening in the crankcase. Some are smaller than others (even later engines, not 113s) JimN

That would be trouble. I'm in so far, I'm going to keep looking for the correct block.

Thanks

Greg

Riverbend: I can't give you the exact info your looking for but do have some info. My tractors are as follows plus a 100 of a friend. These tractors all have factory blocks. 53 SA has 354898 R1, 100 has 354898 R3, 130 has 366204 R1 and 140 has 367825 R2. What is the casting date code on the swather block. I thinking somewhere between 58 and 63, since that number falls in line between my 130 and 140.

The swather engine probably has an automotive type water pump on fan hub. You didn't say whether your tractor was SA or SC and with or without water pump. That water pump match up could create some problems, not certain. If your tractor is SA currently without water pump that fan hub pump may actually be easier than the older type pumps. You may have to use your current breather. Valve cover with oil fill could be different however all you need do is use your current valve cover. Does the swather engine have hole in crank for pilot bushing? I think that should cover all modifications needed.

Hugh,

Thanks for the info.

To fill in some of the blanks - The tractor is a super C. Jim could not read the letter in the casting code (*2*3*??) and did not know the year of the swather. The SC has the water pump set off to the side of the fan hub. Jim did not think that the crank would have the hole for the pilot bushing.

Some of the complications are that I had the cam and crank reground while my old block was up at the machine shop waiting to get boiled out. If the crank will interchange, so far, so good. And, really getting the cart infront of the horse, I bought all the rest of the parts I needed for the rebuild...

I'm going to try to find the on-line parts books and see if anything that I've bought will fit.

Greg,
If you bought the 3-1/4 overbore sleeve kit for the Super C, you need to locate the 354898 block. AFAIK it is the only one with the 3-7/16" lower sleeve opening. It will be in (late)SuperA/SuperC/SuperA-1/100/200 tractors. I do not know the equivalent casting number for an industrial block. Anything from the SuperA/C/SuperC/100/200/130/230 tractors would work if you don't mind getting the right sleeve set.

If the crank is out of this block in question, flip it over and try to measure the bottom of one of the sleeves; or see if they will let you pull a sleeve to measure it. It's either 3-5/16" or 3-7/16" OD at the lower Oring seal point. I would guess it's probably a 3-5/16" OD block related to the 366204 of the 130/230 era.
