Well i did one of them after market camsand i am nbot happy with the performance of them as they come from the land of ALMOST WRIGHT . Now what i have done since is have the cams rebuilt by the one machine shop that did some of my work as they are more precice on lift and duration . And for what they were chargen me for this it was less then buying IMPORTED JUNK. Now if ya do go with a new cam the do go with new lifters or atleast have the old ones reground . And if ya can go with the 450 cam specs.

You've already spent some pretty good money. Get the most bang for your buck by purchasing a brand new camshaft. Camshafts do wear out, and when that happens the valves will not open as far as they should and performance will suffer.

Here's a web site for a few of the old Army vehicles we tested at APG. We did the M88 Recovery Vehicle too both gas and diesel versios.
One of best tests that I ever worked on. The M578
and the M564 Gamma Goat was both hot projects when they arrived at APG for testing. We worked a lot of overtime on these projects. Hal

With new cam bearings and close tolerances on your main bearings will give you good oil pressure. Make sure you have the crankshaft measured for wear too. here's a picture of a vehicle we used for drawbar pull and cooling tests at APG. Hal
PS: The Bradley and M1A1 tank were among them too

Would you believe they scrapped that vehicle after I retired. They had new dynamometers built, but they never controlled like the old M7 did. Hal

My late brother-in-law was a retired CWO4. He served in WW2, Korea and Viet Nam. I'm retired
from Aberdeen Proving Ground after 43 years and 2 of those was with the Army during the Korean War at Ft Bragg with the 82nd.

Be sure to install new cam bearings along with that new camshaft. Hal
