Posted a message earlier about a possible stuck starter valve on an MD. I did a compression test on the gas side, figuring that when the starting lever is in the diesel position, there should be no compression registering thru the the spark plug hole. All cylinders showed no leak except for # 1 which showed 120 psi. Tonight pulled the valve cover off and the #1 starter valve is indeed stuck open. Is there any way to free the valve without pulling the rocker arm assembly? The starter valve has a cover over it which makes it impossible to put ATF or PB blaster directly on the valve stem. Worse yet will I have to pull the head off to fix this problem? Any previous experience or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I think you may end up having to pull the rocker arm and possibly the intake manifold if it"s stuck very badly, but maybe you"ll get luck with the WD-40. It"s not really that big of a job to pull the rocker arm.

Good luck,
Larry

Soak it good with oil and peck on it with something as not to do any damage to it. This is common and usually come loose with a little pecking on the top of valve stem.
