Farmall 140, front touch control works fine, rear seems to be stuck in down position. The control works, rod moves but no action.
What do I do to check this out?

Organicfarmer: I've just gone through the 7 pages of trouble shooting in the IH Blue Ribbon service manual. They don't mention a situation when one control valve works and the other doesn't. I must admit I've never had this happen myself, and being an old farmer we only know those things well, that went wrong.

I just got home from some extended travel, thus I am a bit weary. I see the Hydraulic system in this Blue Ribbon service manual contains 24 pages of reading including the trouble shooting section. Just too much reading for me tonight.

My first reaction, has the control lever come unhooked somewhere between lever and valve. Bear in mind, there are two more pivot points on that control linkage, up behind the rockshaft arms, that you can not see easily without removing rockshaft assembly.

I'll put it this way, it's either something simple like broken or unhooked linkage, or you'll have to delve into the unit. If your going to do that you may as well get the $100. rebuild kit from CaseIH, and install it at the same time. With that said, I'll turn you back to scotty, he has the experience of installing one of those kits.

Mornin, I have to agree with George. You need the Blue Ribbon Service manual. Your probablly going to need a pressure guage also. I believe they hang a rear weight off of the respective touch control arms while performing a number of tests !

Just curious, you say one side is working, and the other is not. When you move the control lever by hand does the control rod under the bottom of the unit also move ? Thats what controls the hydraulic flow to the main piston.

Yes both control rods seem to be working rightly, I am going down there now to double check and check the fluid level.

This is one of those things that you must have the book for. An I&T manual will have all adjustments and trouble shooting guide in it. To run test and adjust properly on these you almost have to put a gauge on them. It could be a stuck valve inside the the lift unit. Could be as simple as something has came loose. In any case you will need the book.
