Hey all, I just bought a 1973 Cub Lo-Boy in decent shape from a good friend for a very good price, should get it in a few days. It was included with his farm when he bought it because it 'didn't run'. He bought a battery and cleaned the carb and used it for the past two years to mow pasture, this spring it wouldn't start, and he has other tractors so he wants it gone. He's told me that behind the steering wheel, there is a section of burned wiring, I assume a critter got in there and we have a grounding problem. I've been searching for wiring harness sections online and haven't found any. Will I have to make my own or am I just not looking in the right place? PS, this is my first tractor but I've owned 90+ cars, mostly VW diesels lately so I am ok with wrenching and wiring, just don't know much about tractors and what's available. Thanks in advance. Joe

It"s alot cheaper to build your own harness than buy one. Just pull the hood and tank off and follow the wires.

Two suggestions.

1) Obtain a wiring diagram for your model Cub. There are several safety switches that must be activated before the Cub will start.

2) Wait until you determine the problem before buying the a wiring harness. The problem may only involve replacing one or two short wires. Or be something else.

Thanks for the response and suggestion. Do you have a good online source to obtain the diagram? I was looking for that too so i could see what all was involved in the harness. I just expected a 30+ year old harness to have a lot of coating degradation in places I might not be able to see and thought it might be a good idea to replace it complete.

You might try Carter&Gruenewald, they have a website.

Thanks for the information! I'd sure hate to have to build up a new harness. For what I'm buying it for, I think I can afford to put some $ into it and buy a replacement.
