i'm in southeast mn and the corn is way taller then it usually is. it is almost shoulder tall! i was always told "knee high by 4th of july" There is alot more corn around here and the beans seam to of taken a back seat to corn. The corn looks so good and thick. if we get the moisture it needs it could be a really good year. All the crops around my house last year were damages by wind & hail Aprox 33% loss. I wonder if corn will see the 1.99 mark??

Corn is planted everywhere down south; most I have seen in decades. Unfortunately, it is burning up for a lack of rain. If we don't get at least an inch of rain in the next 5 days, I think we can write most of it off in the South. mike

The corn from Houston to San Antonio looked best I've ever seen in early June. I've never seen so many acres planted in corn before. Hay was looking great too. This is big improvement over the past couple years.

Just remember there aint one bushel in the bin yet. Crop is spotty all over floods dry conditions storms and so on. Just because they say high acreage planted dont mean their 12 billion bushels will be there. In last mounth i have been thru IOWA,MISSOURI,KANSAS,OK,TEXAS theres some good and bad everyplace poor stands wet floods on and on. When the big pic comes out and they have along look at IOWA things will change. There are more poor acres here than i have seen in several yrs as the last few yrs growing conditions were just rite and it aint happening this yr.

South Central WI corn is curling up, hay fields stil brown after second cutting. Mother Earth needs a drink here in a BBAAAADDDDD way! Count your blessings! Between the "well to do" areas and the dry areas I think $2.50-$3.00 range for corn.

Not Enough Sunlight and Poor Pollenation in reply to Butch WI, 07-01-2007 03:28:02
Yes, it CAN rain too much. We don't often experience it here in Central Texas, but as a result of heavy rainfall, the local crop looks only fair.

Some stands look good; but many are too yellowish and have far too few leaves. Although this problem is most pronounced in low-lying areas, where it is obviously due to standing water, it is also showing up on the hillsides and hilltops this year.

In addition the individual ears tend to the small size locally.

The primary factor seems to be a lack of adequate sunlight (it CERTAINLY isn't a lack of rainfall); and in some areas, where it was raining almost every day during pollenation, we are experiencing poor and very uneven kernel development.

They will begin picking here by the middle of July; so we don't have long to wait to see what the yield will be.

We had 6" in central mo. this past week. We had been doing OK prior to that, I said we could use a little shower, but not 6". It came slow though and didn't hurt much. Our corn is tasseling and silking and looks great! But it isn't in the bin yet!!
