I have a 3444 Backhoe Special w/ 3141 hoe ... the old machine works up a storm but I am putting just about as much diesel on the ground as it is burning. I have just been living with it for a while now but it seems to be getting worse. The main place it leaks is the seal @ the throttle shaft. I don't dare look too close at it w/o a replacement part ... Case IH seems to be what I am seeing for the parts source. Is this right? Any additional information and/or expertise is appreciated!

Thank you all,
The CaseIH house found a complete seals and gaskets kit for me and said it showed to be still available ... my parts man said it would cost about $3.00 to mail it to me so I cut him a check for $31.21 and he will be mailing it to me soon as it comes in ... we will see what is included and I will post the part# and contents after I get the kit - just in case somebody else needs to "stop the leak" they can give their parts man the number ... I'll also post my parts connection just in case you are confronted by a duh!
Thanks again!
Wild Bill

Hi Bill, the BD154 is not a Perkins engine but has the same CAV fuel system as a Perkins Diesel as found on a MF 135,165. The BD154 is IH Diesel build in UK used in agricultural B414,434,444,384 and some construction versions.

Thanks Bob,
Yes it does have a CVC tag ... so this bd154 is a Perkins?

NO, it's not a Perkins. The site a linked to explains how to repair a CAV pump on a Perkins.

Your IH engine uses a CAV pump VERY similar to the PERKINS, and the same repair procedures should apply.

CAV pump, right?

Below is a link to instructions for replacing the throttle shaft "O" rings on a CAV from a Perkins. Your's should be very the same.

Keep things clean, and take CAREFUL note of what holes the little springs(s) are hooked in.

It will need seals and CaseIH is the place. Or any good diesel service shop. If you have no experience working on these I would strongly urge you to take it to a good repair man.

I'm SURE you're exaggerating when you say it's putting as much fuel on the ground as it is in the engine.

But leaking injection pumps, especially around the throttle shaft, are a VERY common problem across all makes.

If you don't believe me, look at the paint on surfaces near the injection pump on almost any tractor more than about ten or fifteen years old. You'll usually see some signs of leakage.

The part number for a complete seals & gaskets set for the injection pump is 384804R91. My parts man's name is Jim @ Beechem Equipment in Marlin, Texas. The phone number is (254) 883-2561. He mailed my parts in very short order it just took me a while to get back on-line. No leaky no more...COOL! Next problem is getting the hydraulics sealed up
Later!
