Have I got one for you! Seems a lot of H owners have posted about the clutch joint ring being wore out. Well mine is too and the one on the parts tractor I took apart is only slightly better than shot. IH wants about $169 for the thing and looks like an easy part to make (with a press)and no one has them but IH it seems. You have a customer here and ready! The bolts are another thing they are rediculas on, $25 each! Makes me want to just weld it up and call it good.

Now I know exactly which part you are speaking of. Had them in my hand about a month ago when I put the live hydraulic back on my M and I replaced the input and pump shaft seals in the transmission.

Anyone know what the degree of draft is in the hole? Most wire EDM's can handle +/- 15 degrees (30 degree cone). Easy enough to probably do on the CNC lathe also... Both are right outside of my office door...

heat treatment required or those bolts will kill em as they are quite hard. Depending upon material and possible warpage in heat treatment they may have to be hard turned afterward...

The ring I pulled out of the parts tractor had the holes slightly egg shaped but not nearly as bad as the ones on my H. The bolts also had a wear grove around them. When I took one of the bolts and slid it into the hole but not where the grove was, it seemed to fit ok. I also noticed on the taper part of the bolt, it was copper plated, I suppose so it could be removed easier. How fast can you "whip some out"? hehehehe. If you want to give it a try, I could send you my bad ones for samples.

Bob,

I am just now gettiing the input and pump shaft, clutch, front transmission seals and bearings on our 1950 M back together. (thanks ever so much to all who have shared their expertise on YT for shaft, seal, bearing and clutch removal in the last four or five years!) I am waiting for an output shaft transmission side coupler and drive "pawl" to arrive so I can complete the job. Anyway, you are using the nomenclature that the current IH Case IPB uses. For my M the names and numbers are Clutch Joint Ring p/n 48967DA and they call the tapered bolts Clutch joint screw with nut and lockwasher p/n 48968DAX. I think highly of Messick's, both their service and prices. They list the ring at 99.98 and the "Screw" assemblies at 22.46 with none currently in stock. Check and make sure that the H and M use common parts. My bolts had minimal wear but most of the the Retainers (rubber washers were questionable) You might also try running a want add for the parts. I had good luck finding the used parts I needed on YT. Good luck with your tractor, and thanks again to everyone Don

Yep those are the parts!, but the H uses different part numbers, my guess smaller, I checked the book the other night. I never heard of "messicks". I was wondering if IH bought those parts from an outside source, say a power train specialty company. They look like they are bead blasted and of a very good grade of steel. they ring nicely when struck, Old ones might make good windchimes!

what exactly is the hitch joint ring? I'm pretty familiar with the H & M and I have never heard anyone call any part by that name... maybe a photo...

It is the center part of the coupler from clutch to trans input flange. it is basicly a metal ring but has offsets. The taper bolts go through it and is cusioned with the rubber washers. I think almost everone with an old IH needs one, the holes get egg shaped and cause the shaft to wobble. H and M both use them , but different size and also I know F-12 uses them also, I am getting the idea almost all older IH tractors use them.

I am guessing it is the coupler for the trans. Well that is what I call it anyway. It hook the trans and the drive shaft together.
I need one for my Super A.
