I need to find a 12v conversion kit for a 55 H. Seems like they are all for the M or super M.

Thanks Kenny K

Werent no Hs in 55. Convert it if it will work better for you. I dont think a 12 volt conversion takes any value away from it, if aything I think it adds. Apparently some folks dont mind pulling the hood on and off to fix generators or regualtors, I do. I want to make sure itll start when I hit the button, and know 9 times out of 10 its going to be charging. I could never say that about any tractor I have ever had with a generator.

These guys are right -- don't worry about getting a kit. Go to the archives for this discussion board and find the instructions. It's much cheaper, and really is not very hard to do. Hardest part is finding or making a bracket -- and that wasn't all so difficult. I did this to my H a couple of years ago and have been really happy with it ever since. When I get to working on my BN, I'm gonna do the same thing.

Those conversion kits cost a lot of money, you can save money by adding a resistor if you are using battery ignition (distributor) and put in 12 volt bulbs in the lights and convert your generator to 12 volts. It might sound like a lot to do, but its a lot cheaper than a 12 volt kit.

What are you going to do with the old 6v generator? I am having charging problems on my H again.

A kit really isn't necessary. Lots of info in the forum archives in "how-to" format. If I can do it, anyone can.

Having all the original parts will help the tractor hold its value if you or your heirs are forced to sell.

I'll give fifty-fifty odds that converting the tractor to twelve volts will be more trouble than fixing whatever's wrong with the original six volt system would be.

If you are converting because 12 volt batteries are cheaper be advised it will be several battery lives (in other words, a decade or so) before you start to realize any savings over the cost of the parts and your time.

But, "To each their own..." (-The Inkspots).
