After further investigation, I have pinpointed the noise (with a screwdriver and my ear). It is coming from the flow divider assy or flow divider valve. I am wondering if the fluid in it is not high enough viscosity. Does anyone know what the viscosity or ratings of IH Hytran is?

Thanks

Chris Hibbert

I tried to find that out too. But Hytran (all transmision fluid really) isnt rated like regular oil is. So good luck. I got premium Hytran from TSC that says IH and case approved. Ill let ya know if it works good.

We have the same noise in our 2500b. We JUST drained it (new to us tractor) and its all emulsified. Surely that could cause it? So were starting there.

Ill watch this thread and let you know if we get out shudder noise stopped. Hoping between fluid, new lines and filter it will be solved. Its not a good sound to hear!

John-Paul T,

I'll be anxious to see how things work out for you. I am just about to go clean the screens now and take a good look at the fluid. I pulled a screw and saw fluid that was a good clear honey color so I don't think there's any emulsified water in there but it's possible. The odd thing is that the noise doesn't seem to causer any ill effects - everything works well - it's just unsettling to hear it. Well post your results here and I will do the same.

Chris

Should know today or tommorow (gotta find time now). They sent the wrong filter so it put us back a few days. However the old filter was BAD, it was sucked in some from being so clogged (hydro pump crushed it) and the diverter valve I think was the noise from being activated so much! THe filter fell apart when removed there are two metal plates one on each side that are supposed to be attached. They fell off haha LOL. New one was $40 but it came with all 3 gaskets and those two metal plates attached to it.

Gonna put it in tonight I hope right after the hose changes. Only about 20 dry rotted hoses (from sun exposure). I might have to find some braided hose covers, heard they last up to 10 eyars that way. Oh well at $12-14 a hose at TSC its not worth risking a hose breaking thats wicked (had a rental backhoe do that-NOT fun). Once you have had 2000psi near 200F hytran oil blowing around near you -you dont risk it!

Any progress with your tractor yet? What did you find out when checking the filter? Does look alright.

Pull the filter screen on the lower left side, below the seat. there is a metal tube comming out of it, and a short section of rubber hose. There is also a filter under the dash sitting horizontal. I love my 424 Diesel, although I have it for sale as I just got a 460 utility and I can;t afford to keep both.
