Hey gang,
Getting serious about getting the engine out of my Regular and need to know some weights.
I've pulled the head already so I don't need to deal with that right now but I will when I put it back. How much are we talking here? The alone must weigh dang near 200#...

The head with valves in it weighs 95 pounds. I just mailed one yesterday. The engine complete with clutch weighs 800 pounds.

I'm guessing 350 pounds without the head. We pull a lot of them with a loader or a-frame, but sounds like you don't have either one. I noticed your dad mentioned a tripod and come-along. The tripod is actually a pretty good long ago method, but the come-along doesn't work real good coming down. BTDT. A chain hoist is okay on the tripod. I usually rebuild em in the frame, but you can sure do a nicer job pullin it out cleanup wise. What year is your regular? They are really easy to rebuild and get parts for, always liked them. I would like to get an early one someday, 1929 and 1930 seem to be the most common here.

Thanks for the replies.

Rebuilding in the frame is not an option, I can't give up my whole garage for the time it'll take.
This is a '28 Farmall thats sat for 40 years or more. It was bought new by my great grandfather. I think he took delivery in '29 and that it was one of the first tractors used in northern Maine.

Once the tractor is all done it'll be at my parent's house in Maine and we'll get one of those carports to put it under. In the winter time we'll tarp it good for extra protection.

It being a family tractor is really a neat deal. All of my grandfather on dad's side tractors were traded off over the years. My grandfather on my mother's side kept everything, but farmed on a small scale. We have his c-case to re-do some day, it's in bad shape. Cracked and stuck block, wheels are shot, beehive in the block, head has been off forever.

Valve cover was off mine and the top of the head was a swanky squirrel hotel. The wheels have totally rotted but I got some nice aftermarket replacements already painted up.
I figure once the engine is turning it'll push me to get moving.

All I can tell you is it has to weigh a ton! The head on my 10-20 bought sent me to the chiroprator. I rebuilt my engine in the frame, but if you are going to have to change main bearings you will have to pull it out. Just remember get help if you need it and get an engine hoist, a good one! Every engine I have seen made in the 20s has very thick cylinder walls and were over cast everywhere. It was the way they dealt with vibration back then. if it is heavy it will last longer kind of thinking.
