I finally started soaking the winch in some ATF. The shaft is 1" and I thought I got it to wiggle once. About how long will I need to let it soak before it will start to loosen up? Give it a week or a month, then tap it with a hammer and soak some more?
Thank you SDE

All depends on how bad it is. I have had things brake free in a few hours and others take a week or a month or even 6 months. If you can heat it up in some way that also helps. Not so hot as it starts to burn but hot enough that it just starts smokeing then stop heating it. Also if you can fine it turpentine mixed with the tranny fluid works wonders

Not sure what exactly you are trying to free up here, but I have used my electrolysis tank to un rust some pretty bad stuff recently. I found an old pair of Cresent tool co. fencing pliers that were probably my grand dads and were rusted solid. 3 days in the tank with current running through them and all rust was gone and they worked freely again. Pitted of course, where the rust had been. Plenty of info on the web and this sites archives on how to build an electroysis tank. I find the process pretty amazing. Just my 2 cents worth.

How you doing Old?

Doing ok. I just got the last of my hay put up last week and will now be heading over to a friends place to put up his hay. Sort of bad because he can do it on his own unless something brakes and then he needs me so we figure its better I'm there from the get go so when it brakes I'm there to fix it. All all the stuff he is going to use came out of the fence row this spring other then the rake, so you know its going to need TLC to keep it going
