Posted a few days ago about a cub clutch that would grind if pushed too far. Shifted good if pushed in just a little. Thanks to the experts here my friend and I decided fixing would not be a major deal (new throw out bearing at worst). So last evening we went to load it and she noticed oil dripping from the flange behind the engine, and also from the clutch adjustment cover. This happened when the tractor was inclined on my loading ramps, face down (ie I was backing it up on).Noticed oil stains on the mower deck so this is not a recent thing. It was dripping pretty fast, and continued when we lowered it back off the trailer. Looks to me like a rear main seal is shot. Is this reasonable, and if so, what’s involved to fix it. If not, what else could it be? Told the seller we’ll get back to him. He lowered the price $300 but I said we’ll think things over. Noticed another thing also. The serial # is 245###, which correlates to a 1974 cub, not a low boy. Any ideas what’s the story here? Looks to me like someone installed a cub engine on a loboy frame and messed up the clutch and rear main seal. Oh well, too bad.
