If it just started this all of a sudden then it sounds like a manifold gasket is blown, manifold cracked, carb gasket failure/leak, or a fuel supply problem. Possibly something with the carb but I doubt it. Check to make sure you have a good steady supply of fuel. Pull the inline screen out of the carb and see if it is all junked up. If so clean it out real good. With the fuel line off the carb and the petcock turned on on the sediment bowl you should have a clean steady supply of fuel. If you have an inline filter between the carb and tank, remove it. Some folks swear by em some swear at em if you have one inline and you find the restriction is in the filter ensure you get one thats designed for a gravity fed fuel system. If the restriction is in the fuel line or sediment bowl you might be able to get it working again by blowing air back up into the tank through the line or you might have to pull the tank to get it. If it is a fuel problem and if you look down into the tank and you see all kinds of stuff swirling around in there pull the tank and clean it out good. Might be a PITA, but it's better than fighting with dirty/plugged fuel lines. If the fuel supply is plenty good then here's what I'd try next. Get it running and warm and spray some WD40 or something that's flameable but won't flash like crazy. DON'T USE EITHER OR CARB CLEANER if you want your eyebrows to remain where they are!!! Spray around the manifold and the carb base. Make sure the aircleaner tube is hooked up too. If the engine speeds up more than likely you have a manifold or gasket leak. It sounds to me like you have a lean condition which is why the choke is keeping it running.

Sounds like a clogged up carb/main jet. One thingyou can try is remove the drain plug out of the bottom of the carb and let some gas flow out for say 2-3 minutes. Then turn off the gas and remove the main jet adjustment screw and spray carb cleaner into the main jet, leave the drain plug out so the cleaner will flow out the bottom. If that works your good to go if not you will need to rebuild the carb

Sounds like you need to do some carb work. Remove the carb and parts and clean in carb cleaner, bead blast carb and install a new kit and adjust the carb correctly. Also make sure the fuel filter, fuel line, sediment bowl, air cleaner and fuel tank are clean.
