Sweep Bolt

Looking for four "sweep bolts" that are 7/16 X 1 1/2" long. These are used on Spring Tooth cultivators to hold the shovels to the spring teeth.

Found a place called McKay Empire that had them but looked like they were wholesale. Must be other places closer that has them or a web site I could order four from. Anyone know?

My sickle mower uses these same bolts to hold the guards on the bar.I got them at Fastenal,I think a package of 25 was something like $10 Canadian.I didn't consider that out of the way at all.

carriage bolts can be used also round head wont hurt a thing i use them on my cult with no problems.

Gene,

Carriage bolts will "work" but on the Spring Tooth Cultivator sweeps they are counter sunk and the carriage bolt doesnt fit right. Hex and square heads work too but just not correctly.

I would have used the carriage bolt but you cant find 7/16 ones here so I have to order them anyway. So I figured I might as well get the correct ones if Im going to that much trouble.

On my Texas Sweeps on the 144 cultivator I do use the carriage bolts. They are the correct ones for that.

1-888-824-0544. Brad keeps these in stock all the time. He sells lots of them here in KY to tobacco farmers. Give him a call and he will send you one or a hundred. I'll look I may even have 4 of them.

OK, Fastenal is close and been good to me so far. The guy there even delivered the last order so that kind of means a lot that they would do that.

Not a dime. I told him yesterday he was going to have to cough up some parts or something. He is just a good friend and a hell of guy to do business with. He said they were about to work him to death. He has always sold parts to me and anyone else cheaper than the other IH dealer in Flemingsburg, Ky. He is also a lot more eager to help track down hard to find parts than those guys too. If he knows where you can find a better deal he will tell you. He deals with more parts for these old ones than he does the newer stuff. He is also computer illiterate like me and uses the books and michro-fiche still. He very seldom gets you the wrong part. His son Jason runs the ebay store, because Brad can't hardly turn the computer on. He can remember part numbers though.

They sold them in packages of 25 at McMaster but I dont need that many.

After you posed that link tho I looked at Fastenal and they sell them per each. I think that solves that problem.

Maybe you should get more than 4. If you are having a hard time finding them now, what about a few years from now when you need more. Just my way of looking at it. Doug N

Randy: Two places I always look for speciality bolts; farm stores and stores that sell nothing but bolts and fasteners. We have two of the latter around here, unbelieveable the variety of stock they carry. What they don't stock, they seem to have overnight access to.
