low rpm , or idle, it won"t die...but increase the throttle, the engine dies.. have cleaned the carborator, "" red green"" style...not professionaly.... let it set in the cheap carborator cleaner... didn"t seem to help.. replaced the gasket couple of years ago, but didn"t rebuild it with a kit.... that didn"t help.... any help would be appreciated

Had a similiar promblem with our 460 (gas). Found out it had a couple of loose manifold bolts. Tighten them and it fixed the problem.

Have you check the gas flow at the carburetor? You need to loosen the gas line at the inlet to the carburetor and hold a clean container under it and see if there's a good flow of gas. If there is, there may be a screen at that inlet and it could be blocked with dirt or rust or both.

Will it throttle up if you use the choke? Your main jet may be plugged. Hal

Points set too close. in reply to orval esmoil, 07-15-2007 15:40:05
Try changing the points to a little wider setting, but don't ask how I know this.

Did you get the carb married to the governor shaft right. It sits in a notch and has to go together just right to work. Might be loosing fire as well. With a weak spark it could kill the tractor when to much gas is applied.
