Hi guys I just rebuilt the carb on a 706. Runs real good but one problem, its leaking gas between the 2 halfs of the carb. I used a new gasket. I havent tryed to tighten up the bolts more yet, afraid to overtighten and make it worse, is there a torqe? Surfaces are clean. Don't think theres such a thing as a gasket sealer that would work on gas and I know that would be a bad idea anyway. Guy I'm doing this for is very picky and I don't want a gas leak wrecking his paint job. This is an IH built carb.

Take it apart again and clean the needle valve and seat. Make sure that the seat is scrwed in good and tight and the gasket is in place. Double check the float height as well as the float drop, and make double sure that the float is sitting in the bowl nice and square, and not rubbing the sides. The gasoline should not leak out between the two halves even if there were NO gasket. The fuel level is not supposed to be that high.

Remember those old down draft carbs on some of the cars and pickups?

Used to take the top clear off and start 'em up and let 'em run with it all open. :>)

How high did you set that float? Under normal conditions, the fuel level shouldn't even be that high.

Those carburetor surfaces may be warped. I would make sure the float isn't set too high. Hal
