Tony,

Looks great! Especially behind your H! I have two questions for you:

1) What size tires are on your H? They look about perfect size, and I'm guessing 12.4

2) Any updates on your Dad's '44 M? I've been staring at those pics of the paint job in progress for as long as I can remember.

Thanks

Hi Mike,

I can't remember, off hand, the width of the H tires. You may be right. I know they're 38's, but I can't remember the width. My dad is almost finished with the M. He still needs to put the new tires on and the decals, yet. The pictures just don't do it justice. Even the cast iron is immaculate.

You do good work. The blue....is that period IH blue?

Thanks Tom,

I got the IH color pallette off of the Wisconsin Historical Society website and tried to match the blue as best as I could. I also was able to get some swatches of blue from inside the clutch mechanism on one of my parts plows.

I can't even think about how much plowing my dad did with a plow just like this (albeit much the worse for wear and looks) on our farm back in Pa with our H and W4. The sight of your well re- stored machine brings back many good memories. Hope you get to use it also and NOT just have it for a showpiece - although it certainly is worthy of that. Maybe you can at least turn over a few furrows every year to make sure you're happy with its function also.

Hi John,

I definately plan to USE the plow on my five-acre farm. In fact, I have already used it and it plows like a dream. With practice, I could drop the shares on a dime. I plan to acquire a whole line of implements for my H, restore them, and use all of them. With a pressure washer, some grease on the bottoms, covered storgae in a barn, she'll keep looking like new! Next projects are a mounted cultivator and a 2-row tractor-drawn trip-planter.

With kind regards,

Tony

Tony, there was also a mounted corn planter or two for the H. The HM-220/221 front mount, or a HM-111 rear mount and maybe some more. I know an old boy that has a 111, but I wouldn't sell it for anything. Dad bought it years ago from a neighbor who bought it new to use on a C. He gave it to me about 20 years ago. It has an IH adapter kit on it now to fit the C. I plan to remove it and put it on my 44 H.

Hi George,

I thought about a mounted planter, but finding one is an issue. I have a line on a nice pull-behind for $350.00.

What a beautiful plow. (Gee, I never thought I'd ever think a plow was beautiful. Funny what messing with these old tractors does to the mind.)

Thanks Mike. I honestly think I spent more time restoring the plow than I did my H. In order to get the metal smooth, because of the pitting, I had to use a 4-inch angle-grinder on the whole plow. I bet the plow weighs significantly lighter without the rust and metal I ground off!

Mike, that is exactly what my wife thinks. She thinks I am crazy when it comes to these old relics. I brought home a C-199 two way plow for my C that is all rust, she said what in the world did you drag that thing in here for? Don't you already have a plow for that C? I said yes, but not one like this. I tried explaining how sharp it would be all painted up and shining, but she just could not picture it. Oh well. Maybe it is an illness.
