The piece under the belly of my Farmall 460 that anchors the swinging drawbar broke off yesterday! The retaining pin fell out and now there isn"t any way to attach the drawbar front to the tractor. Parts man at Sterling Farm says "no longer available". Would anyone know where I may find a replacement piece? I think it is cast iron or cast steel. Three bolts hold it on. Any help would be appreciated, I need this resolved! Thanks in advance, Don

That part should be easy to find. It broke off because the retaining bolts were loose. At the least run a tap into the holes. Possibly one or more may need to be enlarged and retapped. It should not be a major problem, but an inconvenience if you need the tractor right away. To save time go to www.caseih.com and do a parts search for similar models, 560, perhaps even an M, I don't know. Compare part numbers. But, other models should fit.

Here's an update; This 460 gasser had a Fast Hitch when we farmed with it. Larger tractors were acquired and the 460 no longer farms. We've removed the Fast Hitch and built a custom adjustable hitch for stock tractor pulling in the #5500 and up stock classes. (I've been tractor pulling since 1980). A new anchor bracket was purchased and installed during the change-over. A new Farmall M swinging drawbar was shortened and used on the adjustable hitch with a 3" D-ring to hook to the sled. We removed the 16.9x38" tires and installed a road-worn set of 15.5x38" tires for stock pulling. (The tractor came factory with 15.5x38" tires.) The cast bracket got pinched and broken while attemping to re-adjust the hitch! Wellington Implement says a new bracket will be in before Saturday, $80 for the mistake. Next pull is the local fair pull in 10 days, if the new bracket doesn't fit/work, we'll just build one from steel. Thanks to all for your comments, I'll update the story and maybe post some pics next week. Don

You've got to expect a lot of "no longer available" when the tractor is pushing 50 years old. It's amazing what's still out there in new parts, but you can't get everything. Don't bash the dealer when you can't get a part for a tractor that by today's standards should have been scrap decades ago.

That's why there are tractor salvage yards. You should have one in your area, at least within 100 miles, if there is any history of farming around there. Check your local yellow pages or ask the old guy working in the shop at Sterling's.

A drawbar anchor and pin should be child's play to find at a salvage yard that deals in IH. The 460's may even be the same as the one on the 300 and 350.

Oh yes, and when you do go to the salvage yard, take the broken mount with you so you can check it against other tractors just in case the yard doesn't have the exact right one. If you can find one where the holes line up, buy it.
