I have the option to buy a 400 with a IH wide front, power steering, fast hitch and a after market loader for $2000. Is that a good price, it needs a T/A and all new tires! What is the horsepower for this model? Thank you for your help.

wolfman is right. What a horse!Fatherinlaw bought his 400 in 1955 and i think in 57 he said they put in the larger pistons which was a very popular thing to do.He has done nothing else to the tractor in all these years and it still pulls first or second in the 2 pulls he puts it in every year.I hope i can still be in tractor pulls like he is when i am 92.Hell he will probably still be there watching

Most 400's by now have had a 450 engine kit and put out an honest 55 hp at the belt. There were 4 or 5 at our dead weight pull Wed, and they all out performed newer and supposedly higher hp tractors. A good 400 is a horse!

IH rated it at 45 drawbar HP. Name brand tires will be about $1200. Fixing TA will cost you $500-$600 if you do it yourself, plus you will find other things wrong with it.

If it is in good shape that is ball park for it. The tires hurt it some, but the wide front and loader make up for it. I think it is around 52 HP stock, but lots of them have had the bigger pistons put in them by now and would boost it up a little higher if so. Check Tractor data.com
