IH announced in 1943 that they had commercial cotton picker but large scale production did not begin until about 1947 when Memphis Works went into production so factory M pickers were made about 5 years on large scale, do not know how many though. Many Ms were used for dealer mounted pickers until the end of 1 row production in sixtys. I have 1940 M that I stripped low drum picker off and casting code on 2 hole frame cover was in sixtys and know where 1943 M and one of the last high drum pickers made was scrapped out last year.

Thanks for the information. I am looking at a 1950 M cotton tractor and was curious. Would these tractors be considered "rare"?

I would say unusual but not rare. They are becoming closer to rare as many have been scrapped out at one time there were thousands in cotton country and you can stilll find them in fence rows ocassionally.
