Here is the right wheel of my '44 H. As you can see, the tire is a little chewed up, but holds are and is usable. The left tire is darn near new, but the tube needs patched. The rims are a concern for me. In my opinion they look pretty ugly. Like they painted over rust. I have two options to think about. Please tell me what you think I should do.

Option 1) Scrap the wheels and buy the set for sale. The rims cannot be made show ready.

Option 2) Salavage the rims because they can be made show ready, and buy a new set of tires when you can afford it.

Here is a close up of that rim

Here is the wheelset for sale. Owner says 70% tread on the tires. Wheels are off a show H used for pulling now (so using different wheels)

Mike, the rim you have pictured is toast... and beyond that - DANGEROUS! When they rust at the bead like that the tire can blow apart under a load or when adding air. Be very cautious around that until you let the air out of the tire!

I would go with the "take-off" set of wheels, tires, and rims. You will save the $$ of having the tires swapped over to different rims, and those tires look plenty useable. I believe new rims are closer to the $150 each range these days.

Happy to see you got an H! Keep updating us with progress pictures!

Mike, your rims are toast. Tires and wheels OK. I don't see you are gaining anything other than two good rims. See if you can buy just the rims for maybe 150 dollars. On any GOOD restoration the rims are blasted epoxy primed, surface primed, filled, sanded and painted. So breaking them down is usually done. You can't sell your rims, not many buyers for wheels, and your tires are worth maybe 150 if and when you couls find a buyer. How much junk can you have lying around your house in the city. That said, if you could buy that whole set for say 350 you should go for that. Maybe he'll do you a favor and take less money and take your complete set?

Mike, am glad to see you made it. I would definitely buy the new wheels, sell the old to recoup what you can and be done with it. Price might have something to do with it but as far as I can deternie new Rims are a minimum $100 each, tires at least 250 each and the wheels are a wipeout since you can sell the old ones.

In my opinion, you should buy these ''take offs''listed in option three if the price for them is reasonable. From the pictures, yours appear to be rusted through around the beads.

It seems to me that the choice is clear.

If the cash is a little thin(like it is for the rest of us),perhaps this gent would allow you to give him so much a week for them until their paid.

Advertise your old ones, someone would buy them for the tires if they had a pair that are worse like I do.
