A coouple of weeks ago I was really perturbed at Ebay for cancelling an auction just as I was perched to purchase several items from the same person. Now, I am 75 yrs old and get agitated easily but have been trying to settle down. Now there are two items I would like to bid on but the pictures are not good so I emailed the seller. 3 times. No answer. Also I suspect that he gets some extra money from the shipping because he wants to charge 25$ to ship an item he could ship flat rate for less than ten. He is IHC Eagle. has laots of stuff but will not answer questions about his items or shipping charges. I guess you have to be real careful on Ebay.

I never bid on anything on e-bay without checking the shipping first. Some sellers get $15 or $20 shipping on an item that will ship by USPS for $2.00.

It's obvious that they plan on breaking even on the item and making their profit off the shipping.

I've bought way too much on eBay, but I don't worry about if the shipping charge is too high. I figure out what it's worth to me, subtract the shipping charge, and I have my maximum bid. After all, the final price is what I'm paying, so that is what I care about.

The seller can play all the games he wants, it's not going to increase what he gets from me.

Al L. is right. You have to take advantage of the features that E-Bay and outfits like Pay-Pal offer for security. I"ve been buying stuff on E-Bay for years. So far, knock on wood, I"ve never been stiffed, but I DID have to use their arbitration/intervention process once. There are a lot of scams on E-Bay and they can"t seem to stay ahead of them. You get so you can recognize the danger signals. I know lots of folks consider proxy sites like Pay-Pal are risky, but they do offer some safeguards. Most problems seem to occur when the seller insists on cash, which leaves you with limited recourse. ....and NEVER wire someone the payment!

"Buyer beware" was around long before E-Bay, but its never been truer!

HENRY E NC, I am 2/3 your age and also get agitated at times, but didn't when the oil ran through the engine yesterday (previous post about getting an award). I like ebay and have bought - my Farmall 340 that I am just tickled red about and sold, my late dad's Ford Model A roadster. This www. source is a tremendous way to locate and sell items that a few years ago wouldn't have been possible. I have and suggest you contact customer support, link is under the 'help' box in the top right hand corner. Send a copy to your self, I also always send a copy to myself when asking someone a ? on ebay. This way I can check back to see if all my ?'s have been answered; have a record should I make a purchase and there is a discrepancy. My experience is that ebay always gets back to me, just as they state, within 24 hours. I checked on your problem seller and using both upper case, as you posted and trying all lower case letters, I don't find anything sold by this person within the last 30 days to try making contact myself. Shipping can be a money maker for some and I am not afraid to ask for the 'library rate = fourth class as I usually am not in that big a crank to get the item, just glad I found it. Don't give up on this great resource, get cranky instead about the jerk who doesn't use his turn signals...one of Hugh Mac Kay's sayings goes something like 'the only thing I have to deal with when operating some equipment is the dirt in front of me, not traffic' Go fill your coffee cup, it helps me :^)

Pat: I feel the same way as you about ebay. If someone won't answer my questions about an item, I won't bid on it. mike durhan
