My 1566 will not move in 1st gear, does not matter high or low.

Clutch free travel /brake / ta linkage has been adjusted (by me).

I have a cab on it and the dealer said a lot of $$$ to tear into it just to see what the problem is.

What gives??

Well, whaddaya know, the 1st gear is back. I just sort of 'caressed' it in, after going from 3rd to 2nd and then to 1st.

will it move in 2nd gear. If i remebmer right the same adapter runs both 1st and 2nd gear? Gettting the cover off with a cab is tricky too. The steering column has to be moved to get to the cover

Yes, 2nd and 3rd are no problem, and if I pause long enough to let the tranny stop it does not grind, either. First, however, I have not been able to get for a while. Shift handle moves easily including in and out of 1st position...

if you have 2nd gear then my guess would be that you have a bad gear or shaft problem

Thanks ohjeffoh and tv!

I will try to get as far as I can with the top cover (shifting forks and whatnot), and then probably off to the repair man it goes!

Drain the hy-tran and take the bottom cover plate off. use a crow bar or something to pry to see if the shaft moves.if this is the problem it will move a good bit.

Sounds like the nut is off the counter shaft, if so using it this way will cause major damage and be very costly repair.

Ugh... can this be fixed through the speed tras. top cover i.e. without the Big Split?

While i am no expert on the 1566 as in my area i only know of one 1566 and one 1568 and have never been into that three speed but i do know that it will require the BIG split to do anything other then work on the top cover . And being the fact that it has a cab unless ya are set up with the splitting stands and cab supports and all the rest of the neat toys to play with i am sorry to say that you are at the mercey of the man that does.
