I just installed a new tach. cable. The old one was missing the inner part. The part that drives the tach. I could feel the cable go into the drive. The cable seats but wont turn with the engine running. Something seems either broken or frozen inside the housing. The drive housing is under the distributor. This is a C135 engine. standard in the 2404 and a number of other tractors. The Tach is not covered in the Shop manual. It is way to hot to work on this right now. Any idea where I might find a pic or diagram of the inside of the housing. Anyone else had this problem?

Common problem. The little plastic gear in the tach drive is stripped out. If you know that the tach itself is good, and since you've got a new cable, it will definetly be cheaper to repair rather than convert to an electric set-up.

www.caseih.com Search for parts (on right) Begin your search RIGHT HERE. Search 2404. The tach drive is under 135 engine controls. Print the exploded view and part numbers if needed. David.

Thanks. I guess in this heat I don"t look forward to taking it apart. I wonder if an electric tach would be just about as cheap as trying to find parts to fix it.
