Farmall 140 Clutch Help

I just purchased a 1961 Farmall 140 that had been used to maintain the grounds of a Convent. It had been purchased new and been sheltered its whole life. It has not been used for 3 years and the engine runs great. Here's my problem the tractor was stored in gear (not sure if that would be an issue) and will not go into gear. My first instinct would be that the clutch needs adjusting. Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated. I have ordered manuals and can expect them to arrive in a couple of weeks but I do need to move the tractor to my home in the next few days.
Is this a wet or dry clutch?

Gerry: It is a dry clutch, and if it was parked for awhile, my first suspicions would be clutch disc stuck to flywheel or presure plate, or it could be the pilot bushing, but I favour the clutch disc stuck idea being the problem. Could be adjustment, but I doubt it. It has traditional clutch free travel 3/16" at release bearing, clutch adjustment is through hole in bottom of casting to left of pedal.

Several things you can try to break a stuck clutch disc loose. Tie pedal down, rotate pto until it will engage. Turn pto shaft with a 3' handle wrench. Often the best wrench is a pto shaft, U joint and yoke at 90 degrees. Another idea is tie drawbar to an anchor, (tree or heavier vehicle) again tie clutch pedal down and crank engine with hand crank and transmission in gear. Try all 4 gears if necessary. Beauty of trying these, less chance of breaking something, plus you can listen and and may hear it break loose. If when tied to the tree, you can spin rear wheels with hand crank, you will probably have to split tractor.

Just had another thought, I reread your post, and I think you eliminated this idea. You said stored in gear and now can't get it in gear, I take it at some point you must have had it out of gear, right or wrong? When tractors are stored for extended periods shift rails and pto engage sliders tend to get rusty, as they rely on splash lubrication of tractor running, however if that be the case, usually you cant move lever from the stored position whether in gear or out.

Not sure I totally follow you, to wit: "it was stored in gear, but will not go into gear." From that, someone would assume it is in gear right now, unless you snatched it out of gear.
Regardless, probably the clutch disc is stuck to the flywheel. Try (with the switch off) rolling the engine a little - by the hand crank, or the fan belt. Or, roll the tractor. Then, try to engage a gear. Keep rolling until you hit a "sweet spot" and it will slide into gear. THEN, BE READY!!! 'Cause once you start it, it is going to take off in whatever gear it is in, regardless of whether the clutch pedal is in or out. Hang on!!! Get out in a big field or parking lot before you do this. Rev it up, chop the throttle - fast. Repeat. Keep straining the clutch until it breaks loose from the flywheel. Once it breaks loose, it will probably be fine.
Besides.... having been owned by a Convent, you know that tractor is "blessed". And God wants you to take care of it!!!!

When I said rev it up and chop the throttle, I should have added - with the clutch pedal depressed.

While stomping on the brakes real hard. If the clutch is stuck to the flywheel you going to have to force it to break loose. A lot of time folks that are not going to use the tractor for awhile will depress the clutch pedal and block it depressed with a 2x4.

In an area with plenty of room get it into high gear, getting her rolling real good, depress the clutch and brake her hard. Will take several tries but will work.
