1950t,

I read your post in Modern View, but it didn't show up in Classic View. So, here is my response to your request for a source for an accurate new muffler for your H.

Mark's Tractors in IL - (217) 694-4735. I'm told his are more like the originals than any others. The catalog I got last fall lists them at $79.00. He doesn't have a website, so it's by phone only.

Tell him Mike from California sent you, and he will have no idea who you are talking about. :-)

I have Marks mufflers on 3 of my Farmalls M, Sm, and H and they sound right. When I was a young boy there was a man that had a M Farmall he drove to town it was his only transportation and everyone my age remembers the sound of that old M When he would turn the corner in 5th gear and open up the throttle. When I go around the same corner I get Lot's of smiles and waves from the older crowd. The correct sound is as important to me when I restore a tractor as the correct color paint.

The mufflers from Marks Tractor are exact copies (internally) of what IH used in the 1940-50-60's. They have the same baffle size, hole count, spacing and hole diameter. I know this for a fact, as I have the old IH muffler blueprints they are made from.

These are the most accurate "sounding" and appearing reproduction IH mufflers on the market today.

Thanks much Bermuda Ken, Mike and everyone else... Yes... sound is just as important as color in restoring... Just like listening to music from that era. Ya gotta have the original person singing that song or it's not right... Getting fussey in my older years about certain things..... ..... agpilot

I was just thinking about searching back for any comments from others on the "SOUND." I have a 300 that I just got and it has truck muffler... that sounds like a truck so it has to be replaces soon. Any comments about sound of these newer mufflers compared to the original.? Thanks. Agpilot
